Innovations for the year
- Class teacher to be responsible for teaching most of the major subjects in the class i.e. EVS, Project Work + 1 extra subject (min). This maximizes the teacher-student bond and helps in observing and assessing with more accuracy.
- Integrating Social Studies and Science subjects into EVS for a holistic view of the world around us.
- Class Room Library : Each class will have its own unique selection of age appropriate reading material in the classroom. All kinds of books, particularly story books, will be available to the students at all times to read in the class during the reading or choice times. Suggestions, requests and gifted books are welcome.
- EVS Projects : Projects are essentially long term, problem-solving based and meaningful activities that bring together ideas and principles from a number of subject areas and disciplines. Projects bridge the gap between school curriculum and the real world. The children will approach each project using real contexts, dealing with people in real situations and contribute to the society in a real and meaningful way. For example, making a book gives students opportunities to plan, write, reflect on and revise written work, illustrate pages, design the book cover, bind the book etc and finally share their work with others. This year, projects are inspired by the rich EVS curriculum.
- Sports Program : A dedicated slot of 40 minutes is planned for the children to be exposed to a variety of sports and games like football, basketball, table tennis, lawn tennis, aerobics , taekwon-do and skating. Throughout the year each student will be exposed to as many as 7 different sports and learn essential techniques of that game day after day for approx 14 days before switching to the next game. Sports time is now 4 times a week at 9.30am every morning and to be conducted at the DDA Sports Complex and the Rob Ryder’s Academy in Vasant Kunj.

Outbound Learning Experience (OLE) Every student is required to actively participate in the OLE which is a part of the curriculum. The OLE destination will be related to a concept covered in EVS like forests, mountains, villages or rivers. The OLE will be an adventure cum educational experience for a holistic learning.
Proposed duration of OLEs Class 3 – 2 days, 1 night Class 4- 3 days, 2 night Class 5 – 4 days, 3 nights
The OLEs are proposed to be conducted from Nov – Dec.
Assessment and PTM's Continuous, comprehensive evaluations through observations of class interactions, group work, and individual work will form the basis of the assessment program. A feedback of the observations will be shared with the student and the parents along with a discussion for further improvement.
Circle Time Circle Time is a group activity in which the teacher and students sit down together with the purpose of furthering understanding themselves and one another. It is a way for teachers to build bridges and facilitate dialogue between teacher and pupils and between the pupils themselves. It is a time for discussion, reflection, emotional understanding and making connections. Hence the core of circle time is about exploring relationships and feelings. Naturally, circle time also develops pupils’ speaking and listening skills in an environment in which positivity is emphasized.
Skill Time Skill time is essentially the space given to the core subjects: English, Hindi, EVS and Mathematics. In Class 5, an introduction to the 3rd languages i.e. French and Sanskrit are the additional subjects. The approach followed, for all subjects is child-centric and emphasizing on learning for understanding rather than merely ‘completing’ concepts.
Choice Time Choice time is an unstructured class in which the child chooses his preference of work. So in a typical choice time class, students can be seen reading, completing pending assignments, discussing project work, practicing a song, dance or a skit, or drawing. The students hence learn to be more independent, to take small decisions, to explore activities beyond the timetable and to enjoy and benefit from peer learning.
Reading Time Ample time is given to the students to read their favourite book from the classroom library during school hours. Under the watchful eye of the language teachers children will be observed and encouraged to enjoy reading. At times, activities like story telling sessions, discussions and group reading will be incorporated to nurture the love for a wide repertoire of books.
