Music is an extremely rich kind of experience in the sense that it requires cognition, it requires emotion, it requires aesthetics, and it develops performance skills, individual capabilities. These things need to be developed and all have to be synchronized and integrated so that, as a person leans music, they stretch themselves mentally in a variety of ways. Music in education can be a healthy balance to a student’s general course curriculum and can actually help stimulate learning and development.
Music program in the school focuses to develop sensitivity towards musical forms learning styles, area of high interest, non verbal communication skills, emotional responses, as well as the way they related to themselves, others around them and their environment. Music education program in school works on emotional development, physical development and intellectual development of a learner.
Music is so much fun for the children of Nursery Kindergarten that they don’t even realize they are getting exposure of different expression, moods, voice modulation tune and rhythm through a beautiful musical story. We share musical moments through creative body movement to express our inner feelings and they (learn to develop their expression in day to day life).
In primary classes the program focuses on different aspects such as personal attachment and emotional bonding with subject. To give opportunity to each child to explore, identify different kind of sounds and implementation of the sounds in musical competitions existing in the environment around them.
With previous knowledge and experience students get more opportunity to explore all the forms of Music with more details in upper primary stage. They get exposure and awareness of different kind of musical instruments (Indian and western), vocal (Indian and western), Dance (Indian & western). In instruments students see the sights of various instruments such as Tabla, Bongo, Congo, Dholak, Sarod, Sitar, Guitar, Drums, and Keyboard etc. We mainly focus on the basic components of Music i.e. melody and rhythm with hands on experience to enhance their performance and participate in different activities such as group singing orchestra etc.
Middle level onwards students start practicing in particular forms of Music they are interested in. The subject becomes a discipline/stream, which the child can pursue for higher studies. Theory and practice of the stream and historical perspective of traditional musical forms are also developed. Defined technicalities of the subject with a clear understanding are provided.
Dance
Teaching of Dance in School education provides a number of distinct advantages. Dance provides complete awareness of the body and enhances the sensitivity of a person. IT improves concentration, mental alertness quick reflex action and it also helps in relieving stress.
Children from classes IV onwards get practical knowledge and basic understanding of classical dance, folk dances and creative dance forms The knowledge of basic footsteps, positions, hand movements, is focused on.
To make an in depth student of the chosen dance form children specialize from class VII onwards where they learn the fundamentals of Indian and western dance form.
